Georgia voters set to decide key runoff races Tuesday
Nearly 483,000 ballots have already been cast as Republicans and other voters choose nominees for governor, Senate and statewide offices.
- On Tuesday, Georgia voters head to the polls to decide primary runoff elections for governor, U.S. Senate, and other statewide offices, with polls open statewide from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Runoffs occur because no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in May, forcing contests in key races as Republicans seek to maintain control of the governor's office following Governor Brian Kemp's departure.
- Insider Advantage polling shows CEO Rick Jackson leading Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones 49% to 46% in the gubernatorial race, while Congressman Mike Collins holds a 48% to 46% edge over Derek Dooley for the Senate nomination.
- Republicans outpaced Democrats during early voting, casting a little over 300,000 ballots compared to 178,000 from Democrats, as nearly 483,000 early and absentee ballots were submitted ahead of Election Day.
- The runoff winners will advance to face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms for governor and Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff for the Senate seat in the November general election.
