- On July 17, the State Security Service of Georgia arrested two suspects in Batumi, preventing an illegal uranium transaction.
- Amid transnational trafficking concerns, authorities noted the planned $3 million transaction and radioactive uranium’s alpha and beta emissions could enable a mass-fatality bomb, according to the agency.
- Uncovering the plan, security units detected and neutralised the plot early, led by the Counterintelligence Department of the SSSG and Special Operations Department of the SSSG.
- Following the arrests, the case carries five to ten years in prison and an investigation launched under Article 230 of Georgia's Criminal Code.
