Georgia Lawmakers Taking Another Look at Medical Marijuana, Hemp Laws
GEORGIA, JUL 30 – Georgia's House committee is evaluating medical cannabis and hemp policies after 2025 legislative stalls, with over 33,700 patients enrolled in the low-THC oil program, officials said.
- On Tuesday, a Georgia House study committee held its first meeting at the state Capitol to address stalled cannabis and hemp law reforms.
- Earlier this year, lawmakers reported that four bills on medical cannabis and hemp were introduced but none passed both chambers, highlighting legislative stalemate.
- According to the state Department of Public Health, Georgia’s low-THC oil program supports thousands of patients, caregivers, and physicians, many with intractable pain or PTSD.
- The committee will hold three additional hearings between now and October, including a meeting on Aug. 21 in Augusta.
- As the August 21 session approaches, the committee will meet three more times before the 2026 legislative session to prioritize medical cannabis and recreational hemp, lawmakers plan.
