George Clooney to get the lifetime achievement prize from Venice Film Festival
The Venice Film Festival will honor George Clooney with its 2026 Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, recognizing a career spanning acting, directing, and producing across film and television.
Venice Artistic director Alberto Barbera described Clooney as 'a complete and charismatic artist,' citing his rare versatility across genres from war movies like Three Kings to sophisticated comedies like Ocean's Eleven.
Beyond his two Academy Awards, Clooney has dedicated nearly two decades to humanitarian efforts, including founding Not On Our Watch and receiving the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
Clooney called the recognition a 'tremendous honor,' noting Venice is his favorite festival, while the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival runs September 2-12 with the lineup arriving July 23.
For his Broadway debut in the stage adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, Clooney earned a Tony Award nomination, starring as Edward R. Murrow in the first live televised performance on CNN.
George Clooney, the Hollywood actor and director, winner of two Oscars, will receive an Honorary Golden Lion at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. "He is a complete, charismatic, passionate, and original artist," emphasized festival director Alberto Barbera.
