Ozempic Is Changing More Than Waistlines as Scientists Wise Up to Concerning Side Effects

A major study published in January 2025 analyzed health benefits and risks of GLP-1RA drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy for over 215,000 patients in the US and UK.
These drugs, initially for diabetes and approved for weight loss in 2021, have rapidly grown in popularity with over 2 million US users and 13% prescription growth recently.

The findings suggest GLP-1RA drugs will remain widely used but require caution and further study to mitigate rare severe effects and address emerging concerns like skin aging linked to rapid weight loss.
