Evacuations Ordered for Gateway Area in Western Colorado Due to Wildfires

MESA COUNTY, COLORADO, JUL 13 – More than 190 firefighters are battling multiple lightning-sparked wildfires with no containment, while mandatory evacuations remain active in western Colorado's Mesa County.

  • At 11:30 a.m. Monday, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation order for properties between mile markers 124 and 128 along Highway 141, and Clifton Community Campus was named the evacuation center.
  • In rugged terrain near Gateway, blazes sparked by lightning last Thursday are advancing, with two fires burning over 1,000 acres, Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit said.
