Lockdown Lifted After Suspect Found Hiding in the Ceiling of NC Hospital
A K-9 unit tracked Christopher Adam Hooper to CaroMont Regional Medical Center after officers found two stolen motorcycles and a second suspect nearby.
Gastonia police apprehended two suspects Sunday after a motorcycle pursuit ended at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where one man was found hiding in the building's ceiling.
Sunday afternoon, officers initiated a pursuit after a Flock camera system alerted them to two stolen motorcycles near Armstrong Park Road, leading to a traffic stop attempt at New Hope Road and East Franklin Boulevard.
Abandoning their motorcycles at a dead end on Melvin Drive, both suspects fled on foot before police arrested 20-year-old Payton Beatty in nearby bushes following a K-9 search.
K-9 units tracked 27-year-old Christopher Adam Hooper to CaroMont, where they successfully located him hiding in a drop-down ceiling following an extensive search of the medical facility.
Hooper remains in the Gaston County Jail under no bond, facing charges including reckless driving and obstructing a health care facility, with a prior 2023 manslaughter conviction.
