Gas Tanks Explode at Oklahoma Pipeline Facility After Lightning Strike
Two tanks remain on fire after a lightning strike at the Explorer Pipeline facility, and schools and nearby businesses were evacuated.
Emergency crews are responding to a liquid natural gas tank fire at the Explorer Pipeline Facility in Glenpool after two tanks exploded around 8:33 a.m. on Monday.
According to Explorer Pipeline, lightning struck a tank at the facility earlier this morning, resulting in the fire that emergency response teams are working to mitigate.
Surrounding businesses and residences have been evacuated as a precaution, while Glenpool Public Schools students are sheltering in place within their buildings for safety.
The Glenpool Police Department has closed 126th Street South between Casper Avenue and Elwood, directing drivers to use alternate routes via 121st Street.
Police report no injuries have occurred at this time, and emergency officials continue to monitor the site while additional response resources are en route.
