Two Injured in Gas Plant Fire Near Calgary; One in Critical Condition
One man was airlifted in critical condition and a second person was treated on scene as crews brought the blaze under control.
On Friday, a fire broke out at the Canadian Natural Resources Limited Hussar gas plant about 85 kilometres east of Calgary, injuring two people.
Wheatland County Fire Services, alongside Hussar and Calgary departments, responded at 5:30 a.m., with crews evacuating the surrounding area as a precaution after a HAZMAT team arrived.
A STARS air ambulance crew transported one man in his 70s to hospital in life-threatening condition, while a second person received treatment on the scene.
CNRL spokesperson Julie Woo told CBC News the blaze is under control. "Our key priorities are the safety and security of our employees, stakeholders, and the environment," she said.
Authorities have not yet determined the fire's cause, though CNRL plans to release more information regarding the incident as it becomes available.
