Manuel Earl Marquez, 21, of Gary, has been charged in Lake County after authorities say he was caught cutting wires from a railroad signal box in an attempt to scrap them for money. According to court documents, officers were dispatched on June 27, 2025, to the area of 8th Avenue and Colfax after a signal maintainer with Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad reported someone tampering with a signal box.
