GARGOYLES Live-Action Series Not Moving Forward at Disney+

  • Disney+ has cancelled the live-action reboot of the 1990s animated series Gargoyles, which was in early development at the streamer. A source confirmed to Variety the project is no longer moving forward.
  • The project, first heard of nearly three years ago, involved Annabelle writer Gary Dauberman and producer James Wan of Atomic Monster. It was intended to adapt the original series that aired from 1994 to 1997.
  • Original co-creator Greg Weisman told ComicsOnline in an interview that the live-action project is "dead." Weisman confirmed there are no current plans for a live-action version.
  • Despite reported interest from Jordan Peele and Kenneth Branagh, previous adaptation attempts never materialized into official productions. The Mouse House has struggled to leverage Gargoyles despite the franchise's enduring appeal.
  • Gargoyles' original animated series remains a cult classic, running for 78 episodes from 1994 to 1997 and following nocturnal warriors in New York City. Fans continue rewatching the series today despite the cancelled reboot.
