- On March 16, GameStop designated the Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U as retro consoles in a March 16 announcement.

- GameStop will run a Retro Trade-In Bonus now through March 21st, awarding an additional 10% trade credit for Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and accepting defective retro consoles that must at least be able to power on, including those described as 'aesthetically unfortunately'.
- Customers on X reacted that the retro label made them feel old, with one X user writing 'Why you gotta do us dirty like that', while GameStop officials said the systems remain 'still very cool' and owners are 'absolutely not old'.
- Founded in Dallas in 1984, GameStop rebranded in 1998 and operated more than 3,200 stores as of 2025, with this story posted Mar 17, 2026 by Josh DuBose.
