Plug Power Completes Installation of 100 MW GenEco Electrolyzer Units at Galp's Sines Refinery - Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG)
The electrolyzer system will produce up to 15,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, cutting 110,000 tons of CO2 emissions and replacing 20% of grey hydrogen use at the refinery.

- Plug's strategic rollout in Europe includes the Sines project, projected to produce 15,000 tons per year, replace 20% of refinery grey hydrogen, and cut 110,000 tons CO2e annually.
- Using modular PEM systems, Plug's GenEco electrolyzers were delivered via a global supply chain integrating components manufactured across the U.S. and Europe, the company said.
- Near term, the project will move into commissioning, and Galp called the milestone a step toward producing green hydrogen at an industrial scale, 'With this pioneering project, Galp is closer to producing green hydrogen at an industrial scale, a historic moment for European refining,' said Ronald Doesburg.
- Plug's global deployments show over 72,000 fuel cell systems and 275 fueling stations, with hydrogen plants operational in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana producing 40 tons per day.

Galp says that when it starts, this "green hydrogen production unit will be Europe's biggest" with the ability to "produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year".
The petroleum is expected to start producing this green gas in the second half of 2026.
