Nitin Gadkari said the government will allow older diesel trucks and buses to use an IIT Delhi retrofit device. The low-cost technology has cleared testing and could sharply cut emissions while complementing vehicle replacement efforts.

Speaking at an event organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), Gadkari said the technology, developed from an innovation at IIT-Delhi, had successfully completed testing. The devices can be fitted on BS-IV, BS-III and older diesel vehicles, bringing their emissions to levels comparable with BS-VI vehicles.

This technology, developed by IIT Delhi, will make the emissions of old vehicles almost as clean as BS-VI levels.
