The request of the Romanian President for a certain period of US military defence capabilities on the ground of Mihail Kogałniceanu was approved by a majority of votes of the joint committees for the defence of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The 57th Air Base from Mihail Kogălniceanu is fully up-to-date. The new 3.5 km track, the longest for military aircraft in the country, will allow the operation of a complete F-16 schedule, and the infrastructure will support up to 10,000 military personnel and their families.
