Lithuania is not considering to leave the ICC, president says
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said Monday that there was no discussion about Lithuania withdrawing from the International Criminal Court despite reports of US pressure on its allies to distance themselves from the institution.
Lithuanian President Nauseda stated that despite US pressure, they are not considering withdrawing from the ICC. He added that as a country supporting the arrest warrant against Putin, this cannot be publicly announced.
"Nobody raises the question like that. But withdrawing from the ICC for a country that caused applause for the ICC's decision to issue an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin - I'm sorry, how are we supposed to explain this to our people?" - G. Nausėda told LRT television when asked how Lithuania would act if the US made Vilnius' withdrawal from the ICC conditional on the continued deployment of American troops.
President Gitanas Nausėda says that no one is raising the issue of Lithuania's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC), and such a move would be difficult to explain to the public.
