Funeral for killed Delaware State Trooper to be held at University of Delaware arena
Corporal Ty Snook, a 10-year veteran, was killed protecting others during a shooting at Wilmington DMV, with funeral services held at University of Delaware.
- On Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, Delaware State Police will hold funeral services for Corporal Grade One Matthew T. "Ty" Snook at the University of Delaware Bob Carpenter Center.
- A 44-year-old man entered the Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles and shot Matthew T. "Ty" Snook at the reception desk, then responding officers including a New Castle County police officer killed the suspect.
- Public visitation will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Delaware Bob Carpenter Center, followed by a pass and review by uniformed emergency services personnel and a memorial service, with all events ending by approximately 3 p.m. and private interment.
- After his death, the community organized processions and vigils that escorted Snook’s body on Dec. 24, with Delaware State Senator Brian Pettyjohn planning a Dec. 28 candlelight vigil.
- Snook was hired on March 6, 2015 as a member of the 88th Delaware State Police recruit class and was a native Delawarean, 2009 graduate of St. Mark's High School, and University of Maryland wrestler.
