UK Police Charge Man with Attempted Murder over Train Stabbing, Wounding 11 People

Anthony Williams, 32, faces 11 attempted murder charges after stabbing 10 people on an LNER train and a man at a DLR station, police said.

  • On October 31 and November 1, Anthony Williams, 32, was charged with 11 counts of attempted murder after stabbing a man at Pontoon Dock DLR station, east London, and knifing ten on the Peterborough–King’s Cross LNER service.
  • Cambridgeshire Police said they were called to three incidents in Peterborough before the train attack, including sightings of a knifeman at a barber shop in Fletton at 7.25pm and 9.25am, and voluntarily referred themselves to the IOPC.
  • Eleven people were treated after the attacks, at least five have been discharged, and a rail crew member remains in hospital with stable injuries in Huntingdon station.
  • On Monday, Williams appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court and confirmed his identity; magistrates remanded him to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1 to face 10 attempted murder charges in Cambridgeshire plus one in London.
  • Official data show 49,600 attacks with sharp instruments in England and Wales in the year to March 2025, while the UK government says almost 60,000 knives were removed and is consulting on live facial recognition.
