Commonwealth Fusion Systems Places Largest Single Purchase Order of HTS Tape with Fujikura to Accelerate Development of ARC Power Plants
The deal secures more than 10,000 kilometers of tape as CFS prepares to build its first commercial fusion power stations.
Commonwealth Fusion Systems signed the largest supply deal of its kind with Japanese manufacturer Fujikura Ltd., securing more than 10,000 kilometers of high-temperature superconducting tape for its first fleet of commercial power stations.
High-Temperature superconducting tape remains critical for creating powerful magnetic fields required to confine plasma within tokamak fusion reactors, enabling stronger containment in compact footprints.
Fujikura's tape exhibits zero electrical resistance and carries large currents despite its small cross-section, making it essential for compact, high-field fusion devices that reduce construction costs.
The supply agreement represents a major milestone toward constructing grid-scale fusion plants, positioning CFS to make commercial fusion power more affordable and easier to build.
CFS is actively placing orders and preparing to execute its ARC power plant, with initial tape deliveries heading to Chesterfield County, Virginia, to support the world's first grid-scale fusion facility.
