Dementia Brothers Praise ‘Phenomenal’ Irish Support Completing 33 Marathon Feat
The brothers completed 32 marathons in 32 days and are set to finish a 33rd, with £1.7 million raised for dementia research.
Brothers Jordan Adams and Cian Adams completed their "FTD Brothers" challenge in Dublin on May 28, finishing 33 marathons in 33 days and raising £1.7m for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and The FTD Foundation.
Jordan and Cian carry a rare gene for frontotemporal dementia , the terminal condition that killed their mother, Geraldine, at age 52. They face a 99.9% chance of developing the disease in their 40s.
The challenge began when Jordan ran the London Marathon carrying a 25kg fridge, followed by marathons across Ireland's 32 counties. The brothers dedicated the effort to 12 relatives lost to familial FTD.
Hundreds greeted the pair at Merrion Park Square, where Jordan said the campaign brought "hope to an entire nation." Their father, Glen Adams, expressed pride in his sons' achievement.
The brothers plan to approach the Dáil to relay stories from people affected by dementia. Jordan stressed, "Ultimately it's money that will change the needle" for advancing treatment and policy.
