It's Not Too Late to Claim a Part of Fortnite's $245 Million Settlement. Learn How to File
- This week, the Federal Trade Commission is issuing refunds to more than 969,000 Fortnite players, with the total amount exceeding $126 million.
- This refund payout is connected to a $520 million agreement Epic Games reached in December 2022 to resolve claims that it employed misleading strategies to cause players to make unintentional purchases.
- Eligible consumers include players charged for unwanted in-game items or whose accounts were locked after disputing charges, as well as parents of children who made unauthorized purchases between 2017 and 2022.
- Since December 2024, about $198 million has been sent out with roughly $47 million remaining, and the FTC has reopened the claims portal with a July 9 deadline to file.
- Epic Games is implementing changes to meet player and regulatory expectations, hoping these will guide others in the industry amid ongoing reviews of claims submitted after February 14.
