Ancient Predators and Giant Amphibians Found in African Fossil Treasure Trove

Among the findings are the remains of gorgonopsids, carnivorous predators of large tusks, and dicinodonts, robust herbivores with corneum peaks. An international team of paleontologists has discovered in southern Tanzania and eastern Zambia exceptionally well preserved fossils that shed new light on the terrestrial ecosystem that existed before the greatest mass extinction of Earth’s history, which occurred about 252 million years ago.
