A second French soldier of the UN mission in Lebanon, Anicet Girardin, died on Wednesday, 22 April, after being seriously wounded in an ambush attributed to Hezbollah by the UN and France. It was in this ambush that another French soldier, Warrant Officer Florian Montorio, was fatally wounded on Saturday. Hezbollah had "denied any connection with the incident with the Finul".
The 31-year-old Master Corporal Anicet Girardin had been employed in the Finul in Lebanon since January 2026. He was the second French soldier killed in the country in a week.
