No injuries or hazardous-material leaks were reported after about 25 cars left the tracks, and crews cleared roadway crossings, officials said.
On Thursday, July 9, a Union Pacific freight train derailed near Warrensburg, Missouri, sending approximately 25 cars into a field between Highway 33 and Northeast 501 Road.
The Johnson County Fire Protection District reported the derailment occurred early Thursday morning north of the UCM Trapshooting Range, with Union Pacific confirming the incident around 4 a.m.
Officials with the JCFPD confirmed no injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were released, preventing any environmental hazard from the derailment.
Emergency crews cleared all affected roadway crossings, and authorities confirmed that all roads east of Warrensburg have reopened following the incident.
Union Pacific confirmed cleanup operations are underway and the incident remains under investigation, though the company has not released further details about the derailment's cause.
