Free show based on David Attenborough exhibition launching in London next week
- Darlington Libraries is celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday with a hand-painted book bench created by artist Lisa House, featuring the broadcaster's portrait alongside British wildlife. Once complete, the bench will be installed outside the Cockerton branch library.
- To reinforce the environmental message, Darlington Libraries is visiting local schools to deliver assemblies on the 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign and 'leave no trace' principle. Pupils are participating in a poster competition encouraging others to take litter home.
- Councillor Libby McCollom, Darlington Council's cabinet member for local services, said: "This fantastic project reflects our hope that Sir David Attenborough's powerful message of respect, responsibility and optimism for the natural world will continue to inspire the next generation."
- Separately, a celebrated immersive exhibition from the Natural History Museum is being transformed into a free, five-minute show at Outernet London, beginning on May 8, Sir David's birthday. The adaptation will guide audiences through the history of humanity and Earth.
- Adam Farrar, director of commercial and visitor experience at the Natural History Museum, said the experience has reached over 150,000 visitors. He noted the museum's mission is to create advocates for the planet, ensuring the message resonates with future generations.
