Frederic Lee Sterchi, 84, of Greensburg

Frederic Lee Sterchi, 84, of Greensburg, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on July 18, 1941, at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Rudolph John and Nellie Jane (Hodel) Sterchi. Fred was 100% Swiss ancestry on both sides. He was a member of Gruetli-Helvitia Society. Fred was a 1959 graduate of Fern Creek High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Murray State University in 1963. During his youth he worked at Bourbon Stockyards in Louisville. In college he worked at Logan County Stockyards on weekends in Russellville, Kentucky. At age 18, Fred went into the trucking business starting Sterchi & Son Trucking. He sold it in 1998. In 1964 he started working for his father, R.J., at Pavy’s Stockyard in Greensburg, Indiana. He began as part-time owner and in 1978 became full owner. He sold Pavy’s in 1998. He was also involved in commercial cattle feeding in Nebraska, Kansas and Texas. He was half-owner in Heritage Livestock in Bowling Green, Kentucky and sold it in 2017. He married Barbara Ann Brame on April 4, 1964, in Madisonville, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Beth (Charles) Leslie of Naples, Florida and Sarah (Courtney) Schroeder of Greensburg, Indiana; her son, Stephen (Beth Anne) Sterchi of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. The service will be live streamed. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 13 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
