Special Investigation Team Will Probe ‘Financial Misappropriation’ in Bid to Bring Messi to Keralam: Chennithala

- On Thursday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala announced a Special Investigation Team to probe alleged financial irregularities and tax evasion involving a failed bid to bring Lionel Messi and the Argentina national football team to Keralam.
- Chief Minister Satheesan submitted a note flagging serious discrepancies in contractual arrangements with private entities like GoatAd, prompting Home Minister Chennithala to seek legal opinion from the Director General of Prosecution.
- The probe will examine the role of GoatAd Global LLP, the use of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi, and whether public servants granted undue favors or financial benefits to private entities.
- Chennithala told reporters in Idukki, "Based on that legal opinion, I realised that there are several legal issues involved," confirming Additional Director General of Police Vijayan will lead the immediate inquiry.
- The team must submit a comprehensive report to the government at the earliest, with authorities prepared to initiate legal action under the Prevention of Corruption Act if findings disclose criminal offences.
