France's Lactalis recalls baby milk batches due to toxin
Lactalis recalled six infant formula batches containing cereulide toxin linked to vomiting and diarrhea, affecting 18 countries amid a global contamination crisis.
- On Wednesday, French dairy group Lactalis said its nutrition unit is recalling baby-milk batches, including specific SMA infant and follow-on formulas deemed unsafe.
- Investigators traced the issue to an ingredient from a leading supplier containing cereulide toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, which can cause vomiting, nausea, and abdominal cramps.
- Lactalis Nutrition Santé voluntarily recalled six batches of Picot brand infant milk sold in pharmacies and supermarkets.
- The Food Standards Agency warned affected batches may contain cereulide and urged parents, guardians and caregivers not to feed these products, advising concerned families to contact their GP or call NHS 111.
- This follows a Nestlé recall earlier this month over similar toxin concerns, and Nestlé apologised to customers while reporting no related illnesses.
