This morning of Thursday, October 8, 2026, it was the students' turn to protest at Le Mans (Sarthe). The demands are different, but equally multiple.
French youth taking to the streets to demand better education: that gives citizens courage. The accompanying violence, however, is worrying and, above all, counterproductive. Hopefully, it is not a harbinger of next year's presidential elections.
On Tuesday, October 6, the Prime Minister proposed to re-establish dialogue with angry high school students through a half-day discussion, which is supposed to provide "a space for students to express their concerns and expectations."
As the blockages continue, the government wants to organise dialogue with the high school students. However, school leaders consider the measure difficult to implement without a serene climate and security conditions. In Aubervilliers, our journalist Karim Yahiaoui is with the students of Henri Wallon High School, where the blockage prevents access to the classrooms.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, the students of the University of Mans (Sarthe) decided to join the mobilization of the high school students. The students marched together in the streets of Mans to bring common demands.
