France shuts down nuclear reactors in heatwave precaution
PARIS: France's main energy provider on Thursday (Jun 25) shut down two nuclear reactors as an environmental protection measure to avoid discharging too much hot water into rivers already warming in a record
The extreme heat wave forces France to shut down several nuclear reactors or to reduce their performance. Less heated cooling water is to be drained into rivers and seas. However, the cooling requirements of the reactors are actually increasing because of the heat.
After Golfech at the beginning of the week, the group shut down a reactor at the Nogent-sur-Seine power plant. It also adapts production at several other sites.
