Over the four months of summer, the figures are stable, but on Thursday, Public Health France observed an increase in drownings of 41% between mid-July and mid-August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

From 1 June to 30 September 2024, 1.244 drownings were recorded throughout the country, of which 350 were followed by deaths (28%), levels still high but generally stable over a year, said the health agency. However, from mid-July to mid-August, there was "a worrying increase" of 41% of drownings.
