Framework Laptop 16 gets a better touchpad, a new look, and a wild eGPU trick
The update adds a seamless haptic touchpad, a lower-cost Ryzen 5 model and an OCuLink Dev Kit that can reuse graphics modules externally.
- On Tuesday, modular PC maker Framework unveiled the Laptop 13 Pro, a repairable notebook featuring Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips and a fully machined aluminum chassis that CEO Nirav Patel describes as a "MacBook Pro for Linux users."
- Company founder Nirav Patel said the product represents "a complete ground up redesign" addressing years of customer feedback requesting better battery stamina and performance capabilities.
- Preorders for the Laptop 13 Pro start at $1,199 for the DIY Edition or $1,499 for prebuilt configurations, offering over 20 hours of 4K Netflix streaming and a 13.5-inch touchscreen display.
- Framework also showcased an OCuLink Dev Kit for the Laptop 16 to enable external GPUs and other high-speed peripherals, alongside a forthcoming Wireless Touchpad Keyboard developed with Taiwanese manufacturer Lite-On.
- Shipments for the Laptop 13 Pro begin in June, while the OCuLink Dev Kit and Wireless Touchpad Keyboard are scheduled to launch later this year, the company said.
