Fox News Poll: Voters want major change amid economic and political discontent
The survey shows Democrats with their widest edge on the economy since 2006, while 76% of Americans rate conditions as fair or poor.
- A Fox News poll released Wednesday found voters would back Democratic House candidates 53% to 46%, the highest percentage either party has received on the generic ballot in Fox News polling since 1996. Only 24% of Americans rate the economy as excellent or good.
- Economic hardship from inflation has intensified, with those reporting severe financial strain rising 8% since last year and 54% expecting the economy to worsen in the coming year. President Donald Trump's job approval remains near record lows.
- Voters favor Democrats on income inequality , healthcare , inflation , the economy , and foreign policy , while Republicans lead only on crime . In competitive counties, the Democratic candidate leads 59-41 percent.
- More Democrats show motivation to vote while Republicans and independents alike rate the economy negatively, narrowing the traditional Republican enthusiasm advantage. Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume noted Republicans maintain advantages only on crime and national security.
- The 53% Democratic support marks the highest either party has achieved on the generic ballot since 1996, while Democrats have flipped immigration from an 8-point GOP advantage in April to a 1-point Democratic lead. This represents unprecedented momentum.
