Flash Flood Warnings, Emergencies Issued for Multiple Area Counties
Heavy rain triggered rescues, submerged vehicles and power outages as officials warned of catastrophic flooding and more storms.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Emergency for Fayette, Union, and Wayne counties on Wednesday, representing the highest level of warning officials can issue for Southeast Indiana.
Severe thunderstorms have submerged Cambridge City streets and roadways, with more than 2,000 residents losing power as emergency crews manage rising floodwaters.
Fayette County emergency crews conducted multiple water rescues, including saving a man from his SUV and later rescuing a FedEx driver from floodwaters.
Law enforcement reports 3 to 6 inches of rainfall across Franklin and Ripley counties, with residents urged to call 911 for emergencies and avoid traveling through standing water.
Town leaders advised residents to prepare for potential utility outages, stating they cannot assess full damage extent until floodwaters recede and the situation stabilizes.
