Body of High Wycombe Man, 23, Discovered Following Disappearance in Portugal
Police said the 23-year-old disappeared after a boat party and his body was recovered as search efforts were scaled back.
On Sunday, September 6, Portuguese Maritime Police recovered the body of 23-year-old Julian Amaral from the Tagus River near Lisbon's Alcantara Docks following an alert at around 7.20pm local time.
Amaral disappeared during the Vida de Jovem Boat Party on the River Tagus, last seen before midnight on Wednesday, September 2, when the vessel docked in the Alcantara area.
Before the discovery, sister Jennifer shared an emotional appeal calling Julian "so important to so many but especially to me" and later confirmed the tragic news to The Sun.
Following recovery, firefighters transferred the body to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Lisbon for autopsy, while the Maritime Police Psychology Office provides support to relatives.
Portuguese officials indicate the strongest line of inquiry is that Amaral may have accidentally fallen into the water, though investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death remain ongoing.
