Fortinet Report Reveals Cybersecurity Hiring Stalls as Nearly Half of IT Leaders Face Corporate Pushback
Fortinet says 49% of IT leaders struggle to win approval for more cybersecurity staff as 91% of respondents use or test AI security tools.
On Monday, cybersecurity leader Fortinet released the 2026 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report, detailing persistent challenges Organizations face regarding skill shortages and evolving threats.
Lack of Cybersecurity skills remains a top cause of Breaches, cited by 56% of leaders for the third consecutive year, while Breaches cost North America Organizations an average of $2 million.
While 91% of respondents use AI-powered security tools, 60% report their top recruiting challenge is finding talent with AI-related experience, and defending against AI-powered attacks remains a primary concern for 44%.
Organizations are prioritizing training to bridge these gaps, with 92% willing to pay for employee certifications and 59% developing internal reskilling programs to support AI-powered adoption.
Carl Windsor, CISO at Fortinet, noted Cybersecurity is a strategic business risk, yet only 50% of leaders believe their board members are "fully aware" of potential risks from AI-related use.
