Veteran's Heartbreaking Letter Leads Pit Bull to New Home at North Texas Fire Station: "Please Help My Baby"
Firefighters could not find Jake a new home, so the department took him in while its HOPE Team helped his former owner.
On Saturday, firefighters at Fort Worth Fire Station 8 found a dog tied to their flagpole with a handwritten note; the dog, Jake, has been officially adopted by the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Tom, a 65-year-old homeless veteran living for 20 months in Fort Worth, wrote he could no longer care for Jake while seeking help, pleading, 'If you really care about helping babies, please help my baby.'
Station members welcomed Jake as a 'fixture,' providing an immediate morale boost, while the Fort Worth Fire Department HOPE Team located Tom on Tuesday for medical checkups and resource connection.
Operation Texas Strong provided Tom with an RV in East Fort Worth, scheduled for move-in Wednesday, as Sam Greif noted Tom is 'very overwhelmed and very blessed' by community support.
Monitoring about 528 homeless camps in the City, the Fort Worth Fire Department HOPE Team maintains the station's 'safe place' designation while hoping Tom and Jake may one day reunite.
