North Carolina Sheriff Unveils Humanoid Robot that Could Soon Help with Hostage Calls, Crime Scenes
The $75,000 robot could map crime scenes in 3D and handle hostage negotiations, Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said.
Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough revealed a humanoid robot designed to assist in hostage negotiations and crime scene mapping in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A collaborative partnership involving Artificial Intelligence Robotics Arts, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Center for Design Innovation produced the machine.
Equipped with 3D mapping technology, the robot can run, walk, and dance while recording crime scenes or events for detailed analysis and documentation.
Kimbrough demonstrated the machine's durability, stating, "You can't push him down, and if he did fall down, he would hop back up."
Although the Forsyth County Sheriff office does not currently own the $75,000 device, Kimbrough indicated it could be deployed in the near future.
