Guojun Xuan and Silvia Zhang have pleaded not guilty to child-abuse and related charges involving children at their California home, where prosecutors allege abuse was recorded on cameras.
The case of a pro-China overseas Chinese leader operating a surrogacy center in Los Angeles and raising at least 21 children has drawn the attention of the US Congress. Studies show that Chinese people consistently rank first among clients seeking surrogacy services in the United States.
A Chinese couple in California has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse against at least 14 children. Some of the children were as young as two months old. In total, the couple had 21 children through surrogacy, who they raised at home. The recent accusations have revealed the true story of the large family.
Most of the couple's children were born to surrogates. Now, prosecutors believe that at least 15 of the children were abused.
