Former Winnipeg hockey coach sentenced to 6 years for sex assault of player
On Monday, May 11, 2026, a Winnipeg court sentenced former hockey coach Madison Biluk to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage player, taking her into custody immediately.
Provincial court Judge Jerilee Ryle found Biluk groomed the victim between 2019 and 2021 by blurring professional boundaries and exploiting knowledge of the girl's past trauma and mental health.
In a victim impact statement, the player described a "severe" emotional toll, while the judge noted the offending "persisted for 16 months and was carried out through secrecy, deception and repeated violations."
Because Manitoba lacks federal institutions for women, Ryle ordered Biluk to serve her sentence outside the province, while also prohibiting her from contacting the victim or using Snapchat.
Assessed as a moderate to moderate-high risk to reoffend, Biluk must participate in federal support programs, with the court expressing hope she will develop accountability and avoid repeating her behaviour.
