Taylor Heinicke announces NFL retirement after 10 seasons as a pro

On Thursday, veteran quarterback Taylor Heinicke announced his retirement from the NFL after a 10-season career, sharing the news via Instagram post reflecting on his professional journey.
Heinicke rose to prominence in 2020 after joining the Washington Football Team, becoming a fan favorite during his two-plus seasons as the team's primary starter due to injuries to other quarterbacks.
Over his 42-game career, the Old Dominion product threw for 6,663 yards and 39 touchdowns while playing for seven franchises including the Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons.
Heinicke finishes with approximately $19.3 million in career earnings, including $125,000 bonuses for wins where he played at least 60% of offensive snaps.
Reflecting on a 25-year football journey, Heinicke expressed gratitude for supporters and wrote, "Many ups and downs throughout the years, but the ups outweigh the downs tenfold.
