Former News Anchor Pleads Guilty to Killing Her Mother in Wichita Home
The former television anchor faces a presumptive life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years, according to prosecutors.
- Former news anchor Angelynn Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Friday for stabbing her mother, Anita Avers, to death on Halloween last year in Wichita, Kansas.
- Officers responded to the home on East Crowley on October 31, 2025, finding Avers with fatal stab wounds. Mock claimed her mother was "jealous" of a job opportunity and chased her while "spewing venom out of her f***ing mouth."
- Barry Avers, Mock's stepfather, told police she suffered from schizoaffective disorder. Judge Jeffrey Goering found Mock incompetent to stand trial in January but ruled her competent in July to face Sedgwick County District Court proceedings.
- Sentencing is scheduled for October 5 following the guilty plea. Mock previously worked as an anchor at KTVI Fox 2 before being laid off after "an explosive situation involving alcohol," according to her stepfather.
- Mock remains held at the Sedgwick County Jail ahead of her October sentencing. The Wichita Police Department confirmed Avers was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the 7:50 a.m. incident at their home last year.
