Former Ontario integrity commissioner who wrote Greenbelt report dies
J. David Wake, former Ontario integrity commissioner who served from 2016 to 2025, died a year after retiring.
Wake authored a significant report on Ontario's Greenbelt scandal which led to a cabinet minister's resignation.
His investigation involved 62 witnesses and over 2,300 documents and revealed mismanagement and improper actions favoring some developers by the housing minister's staff.
Current integrity commissioner Cathryn Motherwell and Premier Doug Ford expressed condolences, noting Wake's lasting impact on public sector ethics.
