Former NHL Player Gaetz Remains at Large After Alleged Attack on B.C. Taxi Driver
Police say the former NHL enforcer faces assault and mischief charges after an unprovoked attack on a taxi driver, with an arrest warrant outstanding.
Maple Ridge RCMP have charged 57-year-old former NHL enforcer Link Gaetz with assault and mischief under $5,000 following an unprovoked attack on a taxi driver on September 17, 2025.
Police report the suspect abruptly told the driver to stop near Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent, then punched him repeatedly, attempted to break the CCTV camera, and shattered the windshield.
Known during his playing days as "The Missing Link," Gaetz was a 252-pound former professional who played 65 National Hockey League games for the Minnesota North Stars and San Jose Sharks.
Authorities have issued an outstanding arrest warrant for Gaetz, and police are urging the public to assist in locating the suspect after previously releasing his photo for identification.
None of the charges have been tested in court, and a person charged remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
