The former Dodgers reliever was an All-Star in 1966 and later coached or scouted for six major league organizations.
- Phil Regan, a former Major League Baseball All-Star pitcher and longtime coach, died Wednesday at 89, his attorney Matt Blit confirmed to ESPN.
- Nicknamed "The Vulture" by teammate Sandy Koufax, Regan earned his only All-Star appearance in 1966 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 14-1 with a 1.62 ERA.
- Transitioning to coaching in 1974, Regan spent 47 years in the sport, managing the Baltimore Orioles to a 71-73 record in 1995 and coaching for the Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, and Cleveland.
- The New York Mets hired Regan as interim pitching coach in 2019 at age 82, but he later sued the team and former general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, alleging age discrimination and wrongful termination.
- "His life was dedicated to the game and his family, especially the 18 grandkids that he just adored," Blit said. Regan met his second wife, Lissette, while coaching in Venezuela.
