Former B.C. Chief Coroner Running in Saanich South for Green Party
Lapointe says she will bring decades of public-service experience and an evidence-based approach to the legislature.
Former Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe is running for the Greens in the Saanich South riding for the Oct. 24 provincial election.
Lapointe says she is "deeply concerned about the future facing younger generations," citing climate change and gaps in housing, healthcare, and mental-health supports.
From 2011 until 2024, she served as chief coroner, where she advocated for public health data to inform government decisions, particularly regarding drug-related deaths.
She also chaired the Canadian Forum of Chief Coroners and Chief Medical Examiners and partnered with the First Nations Health Authority to commit the Coroners Service to cultural safety.
A UBC law school graduate, she joined the public service in 1995, holding roles within the Civil Forfeiture Office before leading the provincial Coroners Service.
