Former Afghanistan Pacer Shapoor Zadran Dies at 38 After Prolonged Illness
The former fast bowler played 80 internationals and was remembered by the Afghanistan Cricket Board as a foundation-laying figure in the sport.
On Tuesday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed the death of former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran at age 38, expressing "profound grief and deep sorrow" over the loss.
Zadran battled Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in his final months; brother Ghamai Zadran confirmed the news while receiving treatment in Delhi, with Zadran about to turn 39 on July 8.
The Board remembered the 6'2" tall fast bowler for his contributions, noting he played 80 internationals for the national team.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Zadran served as a true source of inspiration for many young Afghan cricketers, with his "fighting spirit" encouraging a generation to dream bigger.
Throughout his career, Zadran stood at the heart of Afghanistan's early cricket journey as one of the "foundation-laying figures of Afghanistan cricket" who helped build the path to the international stage.
