The first escalator in the Czech lands was wooden and started operating in Prague's Letná 100 years ago, on March 21, 1926. It was a covered moving staircase with wooden steps on the route of the canceled funicular. The moving staircase operated until 1935, and the escalator also played a role in a film: the scenes on the moving staircase in the film Men in the Offside were filmed right here.
