The devastating fire in the Belgian nature reserve calls for continued use. The smell of fire now extends over the adjacent Monschau even over 100 kilometres to Cologne and Wuppertal.
Because of the forest fire in the Belgian High Venn, residents on the German side of the border had to leave their houses in the evening. An emergency accommodation at Monschau is furnished.
The situation is still tense by the fire in the High Venn in the German-Belgian border area. In Monschau in the Eifel 30 people had to leave their houses because of the strong smoke. A forest fire in the Black Forest has expanded.
The smoke of the big fire insecures many people in the Eifel. Pneumologist Ingmar Bergs from the University Hospital Aachen classifys the health risks.
Among the fire extinguishers in the High Venn are helpers from Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The EU works closely together.
