Despite a slight improvement in the situation, the authorities in Greece continue to give no warning regarding several forest fires throughout the country. Fire brigades, volunteers and residents are still struggling tirelessly against numerous fires. Regions around the port city of Patras, the islands of Chios and Zakynthos as well as an area near the Albanian border are particularly affected.
The Romanian pumps sent to Greece to support the burning of the fires were surprised by sleeping on the asphalt, along the intervention routes. The photograph became a symbol of their courage and sacrifice.
